Mary Ann Christian Moore – PHS 1948

Mary passed away Aug. 10, 2015, at the age of 84, in SpringfieldMO. Mary was born in the Brushy Creek Community in Anderson County. She lived in Anderson County for 82 years and in PalestineTX for 70 plus years. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Frank C. Moore, Jr.; brothers: Charles, Johnny and Fred Christian, sister Clara “Totzie” Linnard; daughter-in-law Linda Herrington Moore and great-grandson Samuel Moore. 

She is survived by her sons; Carrol Moore and wife Dorothy, of SpringfieldMo., and David Moore of Round Rock, TX. Seven grandchildren: Michael Moore of Arlington, TX., Jennifer Davenport of Chandler, TX., Rebecca Mason of Camdenton, MO., April Strickler of Cincinnati, OH. , Robert Moore of Round Rock, TX., Susan Menzie of Rogersville, MO., David R. Moore of Springfield, Mo. Eleven great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Also, ex-daughter-in-laws: Patricia Conrad Moore of Round Rock, TX. and Patricia Moore Tatum of StanfordKentucky

Mary was a member of Southside Baptist Church. She was an accomplished and prolific artist, with her beloved oil paints, and was a proud member of the talented group of local artist who in 1986 painted the “Texas Sesquicentennial” mural on the north side of the court house square. After moving to Dogwood Trails Assisted Living in 2012 with the help of Activities Director, Debbie, she held a showing of her paintings, and sold quite a few. She had volunteered for many years with the Anderson County Historical Society and at the “Stock Pot” free kitchen downtown. 

While in high school, Mary worked at the J.C. Penney store and at the old “Texas” theatre. In high school she was a member of the Junior Historical Society and was chosen to go to “Girls State”. Before Carrol was born she worked as a fingerprint clerk in the Corpus Christi Police Department. After moving back to Palestine, she worked at the old Western Auto store, on Oak St. and in Dr. P. A. Kolstad’s optometry office. 

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 A.M.September 12 at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home on S. Magnolia Street in Palestine.
