Funeral services for Howard Calcote 84 of Palestine, will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, September 26, 2015, at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Don Stanaland officiating. Burial will follow in Land of Memory. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Calcote passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Cartmell Home for Aged. He was born March 25, 1931 in Tennessee Colony, to Alvin Calcote and Mattie Eubanks Calcote. He graduated from Palestine High School, and Henderson County Jr. College in Athens. He worked for MOPAC Railroad for thirty years and was a rancher. He served three years in the US Air Force in San Antonio, and was a lifelong member of Lone Pine Baptist Church. He loved to calf rope, play softball, volleyball, and always loved to play with children. Howard loved helping people and always took time to help his neighbors or strangers. Mr. Calcote was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Mattie Calcote, sisters; Gwendolyn Frankie Calcote and Martha Lynn Sheridan, brother, A.B. Calcote, Jr., and grandson John Michael Linstrom.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Althea Moore Calcote, daughters; Linda and Toby Barnett of Montalba, and Nancy and Mike Linstrom of Ft. Worth, son Kenneth Calcote of Houston, brother-in-law, Jerry Sheridan of Port Arthur, five granddaughters; Krystal and Andy Magee of Cayuga, Tobie and Chad Pond of Troup, Meagan Linstrom, Emily Linstrom and Allie Linstrom all of Ft. Worth, six great grandchildren; Haley Barnett, Gracie Barnett Carpenter, Boyce Magee, Claire Pond, Kathryn Pond and Caroline Pond.
Pallbearers will be Randy Shaver, Gary Byrd, Dwayne Stovall, Rick Webb, Gary Calcote and Bradley Calcote. Honorary pallbearers will be Dick Reed, Jerry Sheridan, Robert Humphry, Don Calcote, Dee Johnson, Doug Sumrall, JR Doucette, and Dean Irons.
The family would like to say thank you to the staff of Dogwood Trails and Cartmell Home for the very special care they gave Howard. Also to, Ashley Herrell, Don Stanaland, and Jeri Cleveland, for the loving care given to our husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and all of us.
Condolence calls will be received from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, September 25, 2015, at Bailey & Foster.
