Maurine Farris Grimes, 92, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2015 in Palestine, Texas. Maurine was born in Tennessee Colony, Texas on January 27, 1923 to James Hanks Farris and Vera Tucker Farris. She was a long-time resident of the Dallas, Texas area.
Maurine was a seamstress by both vocation and avocation. She loved sewing and turned that love into a job that gave her much pleasure through the years. She did alterations as well as custom window coverings, cheerleader uniforms for local high schools, and made many of her own outfits. Her customers became her extended family. Maurine was a long time member of Walnut Hill Church of Christ in Dallas. She loved her many friends at the church and always filled her home to capacity with friends and family at every opportunity. She and her husband Frank became the driving force behind the Walnut Hill Chaparrals, a group that made numerous trips all over Texas.
She is survived by her son, Gary Reed and grandchildren; Alicia Reed of Houston, Lauren Hitzeman of Connecticut, and Daniel Brown of Dallas. Maurine was preceded in death by her parents, James Farris and Vera Farris of Palestine, Texas, Husbands, Wallace E. Reed and Frank Grimes, two brothers, James Farris and Tucker Farris, and five sisters, Mae Emma Stovall, Maggie Jenkins, Lou Owen, Inez Kelly, and Clara Phillips.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at the Crockett Road Church of Christ. The funeral will follow at 2 pm at the church. Dan Manuel will conduct the services. Interment will follow at the Tennessee Colony cemetery.
