Tommy Grant – PHS 1966

12 / 05 / 1947  –  12 / 05 / 2015

On December 5, 2015 around 12 am Tommy Grant passed away peacefully in his home. Tommy was 68 years old.
Tommy was born in Grapeland on December 5, 1947 to Earl and Erie Grant. He graduated from Palestine High School in 1966 and married Martha Hicks in 1967. He was drafted into the army on December 5, 1967 and served his tour in Germany. When he returned home he worked for the Palestine Fire Department for 2 years. He then joined the Palestine Police department. He left there and took a job at Alcoa in Anderson County where he joined the family business of W.E. Grant and Sons in laying brick and building houses. He then went to work at Navarro College as Campus Police Officer and later became The Chief of Campus Police. He continued there for 18 years. He retired and went to work on his land working with his cows and hay baling. He went back to work and worked for the Navarro County Sheriff’s office until he went on to become the Constable for Pct. 4 where he worked until his passing. His passion was helping people through law enforcement.

Tommy was a man with the greatest of morales, honesty, and integrity. Tommy always saw the good in everyone, yet saw through the bad as well. He was a devoted and loving husband for 48 years. A loving Dad and role model (HERO) to his three children. Pawpaw to his grandchildren, mentor and hero to them. He was Pawpaw to any and all children. They say kids and dogs are a good judge of character of people, which Tommy was loved by both. There was never a man with more honesty and integrity than Tommy Grant. He meant the world to his family and friends.

If a stranger was stuck, he was the first one with a chain ready to help no matter what time of day or night. You could always count on Tommy to lend a helping hand and do what was right. A true man of his word, which was his bond. The only thing a man truly owns is his word, Tommy was a wealthy man by all means.

Tommy loved his family unconditionally, he loved his cattle, his land, his garden, dogs and cats. And most of all his wife and children, his grandchildren, his great grandchildren and always had love for extended family and friends. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. By all those lives he touched (too many to count). Tommy summed up what a Cowboy was, not at lifestyle, but a Man.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Martha Grant of Barry; children, Charles Grant, William Sam Grant, Kimberly Grant Ippolito and husband James. Grandchildren, Justin Grant, Jeremiah Bradberry, Jeremy Grant, Dylan Dunn-Ippolito, Tanner Grant, Tristian Grant, Brody Grant, Josh Kuykendall. Great grandchildren, Nathaniel Grant and Emma Grant.
