Jerry Dean McMahon, age 79 of Garland, TX, passed away February 4, 2014.  He was born October 15, 1934, in Bethel, TX, to John William and Alice (Loshbaugh) McMahon.  Mr. McMahon proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as an M.P. in Panama during the Korean Conflict.  He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree at Texas Tech University and his Master’s Degree from Princeton University.  He was a chemistry professor at Navarro College in Corsicana, TX, El Centro College in Dallas, TX, and at Eastfield College in Mesquite, TX, where he taught for 44 years.  Mr. McMahon was a member of Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall, TX.

He is survived by his wife: Sylvia McMahon of Garland, TX; son: John McMahon of Garland, TX; daughter: Amy Key and husband Bryan of Arlington, TX; brothers: Aithel McMahon and wife Carolyn of Ardmore, OK, and Joe McMahon of Tennessee Colony, TX; five grandchildren: Payton, Preston, Piper, Ethan and Bryce; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and students.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: David McMahon.

Funeral services will be held 2:00pm, Saturday, February 8, 2014, in the chapel at Lake Pointe Church, 701 East I-30, Rockwall, TX, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating.  The family will receive friends Friday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Library Fund at Lake Pointe Church or to the charity of your choice, and flowers are welcome.
