Mitchell Bolton Worley – 1939

Another member of the “Greatest Generation”, services for Mitchell Bolton Worley age 92 of Fairfield, Texas are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 20, 2014, at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home Chapel Palestine. Texas with The Rev. Terry Skinner officiating. Burial will follow in Fields Chapel Cemetery, Anderson County, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Palestine.

Mr. Worley passed away on Monday, February 17, 2014. He was born on September 29, 1921, in Palestine, Anderson County Texas. He was a dedicated Christian and an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher Columbus Worley and Linnie Rice Worley; a son Larry Ronald Worley; a grandson Logan Rae Worley; and his loving and devoted wife of more than sixty-four years, Mary Lucille Fain Worley, who passed away in 2004, November 12.

Mr. Worley was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who enjoyed having his family, children and grandchildren in his home. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. On one occasion he and his wife drove in their surburban, to the Arctic Circle and beyond, just looking at the wonders of God’s creation.

While living in Pasadena, Texas in 1952, Mr. Worley and his wife were instrumental in the forming of and the building of Sunset Methodist Church, which started out in a school house and within two years, became a major church in the area, complete with beautiful buildings and several hundred members.

Survivors include a son Mickey Worley and wife Carolyn Bryant Worley of Fairfield, Texas; grandsons Martin Worley of Conroe, Texas, Ret. Marine Sgt. Christopher Worley of Seguin, Texas, granddaughters; Deborah Allen of Whitehouse, Texas, Cornishia Nicole Armer and husband Abraham of Seguin, Texas, eight great grandchildren; Justin Allen & wife Katie, Austin Allen, Martin Worley, II, Darrel Worley, Alexis Jordan, Aaron Armer, Trystan Armer, MyKayla Armer, four great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many other relatives and a host of friends.

Mr. Worley graduated from Palestine High School in 1939, and attended business college in Beaumont, Texas. He chose a career in the construction industry. Initially he was manager of George D. Broyles Lumber Company in Palestine. Later he moved to Houston where he bought lots and built many houses. Still later over the next thirty years he became project manager and vice president for three separate major construction companies, developing land and building houses, townhouses, and apartment projects in Houston, Pasadena, and New Orleans, Louisiana.

In 1955 Mr. Worley and his wife bought a ranch in Freestone County, Texas, where they and their children Mickey and Ronnie, spent many a pleasant weekend, and any leisure time they had during their busy career. Eventually Mr. Worley and his wife retired, sold their beautiful home in Houston, and moved to the ranch permanently, where he still lived until his death. Mr. Worley was a devoted veteran of World War II. He served four years in the United States Army Air Force, during World War II, serving two years in the states and two years overseas, in the European Theater of Operations. While overseas he was assigned to the Eighth Air Force, later transferring to the Ninth Air Force, where he received several decorations for outstanding service. He received an Honorable Discharge in December 1945. Mr. Worley leaves a tremendous legacy of honor, love of family, love for his church, and duty to his country.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Don Ferguson, Martin Bolton Worley, Martin Worley II, Darrel Worley, Justin Allen and Austin Allen. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Rutledge, Mike Ivy, Alvin Ivy, Norman Ivy and Pat Ivy.

Condolence calls will be received from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home Palestine.
