1st Lt. Kendrick E. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Kendrick Smith of Palestine, and husband of Elizabeth L. Hood. Attended the University of Texas. Entered the Army in January, 1941. Trained at Camp Barkeley, Texas and Ft. Benning, Georgia. Served in the Southwest Pacific. Awarded the Expert Infantry Badge: Silver Star which was awarded posthumously to his wife. Wounded, November 5th and died November 11th, 1944, on Bloody Nose Ridge, Peleliu Island.
