Robert Bishop went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 10, 2014. He passed away at home surrounded by family and loved ones after a losing battle with cancer. A graveside service will be held at Roselawn Park at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday with Rev. David Blackmon officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Robert was born in Anderson County, Texas on July 28, 1934 to Joe Leroy and Clydia Mae Clark Bishop. During his career, he worked at the Texas Theater and F.W. Supply before joining the Palestine Fire Department on July 14, 1963. He retired June 30, 1997 after 34 years of service. Robert was always an avid water skier and boating enthusiast teaching many people how to ski and took many people on exciting inner tube rides. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Henry Leroy Bishop, and a sister, Bobbie Ruth Bishop Robertson, also preceded in death by a special nephew, James David Hudson.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Patricia Cook Bishop, niece Yvonne Robertson Galloway, nephew Larry Foster, grand nephews, Robert Nash and Richard Nash, brother-in-law D.K. Robertson, mother-in-law, Daisy Cook, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Marilyn Gosper and lifelong friends, Duane Raines and Bennie Davis, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Mike Pell, Mike Phillips, Vic Poff, Kelly Hughes, Geary Johnson, and David Robertson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Palestine Fire Department.
Special appreciation is given to Dr. Clay Williams, his caring medical staff and to the loving and caring of Hospice Plus, especially Pam Dean, RN and Natashia Jones, aide. A very special thanks to all family members and friends who helped give him special and loving care.
