Kathryn “Kay” Shannon-Yeskovich passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. She was 87 years old. She lived for the last three years in Reno, Nevada. Kathryn grew up in Waxahachie, Texas and graduated from high school in Palestine, but lived most of her life in El Paso, where she taught dancing and was a distinguished local artist. Her work was featured in many group shows and exhibitions around the El Paso southwest.
Kathryn loved animals, dancing and jewelry, which she often designed herself. She actively supported service men and women and attended chapel at Fort Bliss. She had many friends in El Paso, after moving there permanently in 1958. Kay worked to support the arts in El Paso and contributed many pieces of her artwork for charity events for the El Paso Opera Company and many others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Madge and R. M. Shannon of Waxahachie, ; her sister, Rosamond Shannon Jones; and her husband, Lt. Col. (AF) Henry Robert Yeskovich.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie Durham and her son, Brian Yeskovich. She also leaves two grandchildren, Colleen and Josephine Yeskovich.
A memorial service will be held for Kathryn on Sunday, May 11, 2014 2 p.m. at the Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home – 3434 S. Loop 256 – Palestine, Texas (903) 731-4444. Inurnment will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery on U.S. Highway 287 North in Palestine.
