Morris Ray Loden – 1956
Morris Ray Loden, 76, died peacefully at home in hospice care on Saturday evening.
He was born to the late Rev. Ray and Ruby Loden, Oct. 12, 1937, in Beaumont, TX, and was predeceased by his brother James Taylor Loden and sister Anna Ruth McAda. Morris graduated from Palestine High School and from Southwestern University in 1960; he served honorably in the United State Army Intelligence Corps. He married Ann Demming Loden in 1964, and they lived together in West University Place for nearly 50 years.
Morris was successful in many professional arenas, primarily as the business manager of Woodard, Hall & Primm law firm and as president of Custom Looseleaf Products, Inc. He was most proud of his semi-retired work in helping to establish JMH grocery and Little Matt’s eatery in West University.
Morris was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church; he also loved to paint, sing in choir and discuss politics with friends.
Morris is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ann Loden, and his two children: Carrie Loden Whiteley of Houston (Jeff Whiteley, husband) and Matthew Loden of Philadelphia (Kristen Loden, wife). He also is survived by two granddaughters, Eleanor and Lilly.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the St. Paul’s Choir Fund or Houston Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at 11am Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
