Services for Carroll Loyd Holmes, 83, of Palestine will be held Monday morning at 10:00 at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Danny Sidders and Paul Jones officiating. Burial will be in Land of Memory Cemetery.

Mr. Holmes died Friday . He was born February 12, 1930 at Tennessee Colony to Clarence Loyd and Mary Lois McGee Holmes. Mr. Holmes was the original owner of Holmes Country Store. He retired after working many years as a hardware salesman. He lived his life serving the Lord Jesus Christ with a passion, serving as Deacon in Victoria and Palestine. Prior to his death he was a member of Court Drive Church of Christ where he served as an elder. Mr. Holmes truly loved spending time with his family and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He especially looked forward to deer season and all the memories he shared with his family in Fredericksburg. Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his parents and step-father Hugh Palmer.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 65 years Mildred Lowe Holmes; two sons: Ronald Holmes, Steve Holmes and wife Emily; and a daughter: Linda Atwood and husband Delton of Palestine; four grandchildren: Julie Middleton and husband Chad of Palestine,Melissa Byrd and husband Chris of Prosper; Joshua Atwood of Tulsa, OK and Austin Atwood of Spring. Also, great, grandchildren: Ashley and Chase Middleton, Isabella and Reece Byrd. Also survived by brother Roger Holmes and wife Sharon of Palestine and a sister Betty Moore of Flower Mound, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Delton Atwood, Joshua Atwood, Austin Atwood, Roger Holmes, Jr., Keith Lowe, Chad Middleton, Chris Byrd, Eddie Stanaland and Danny Brewer. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders of Court Drive Church of Christ, and Jerry Hughes, Bob Stech, Don Stoldt, Mike Stewart, Ken Brewer, Cecil Stanaland, Doug Lowe and Edwin Lowe.
Condolences calls will be received Sunday night from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home. Family requests memorials can be made to Palestine Community Food Bank, 1434 Court Drive, Palestine, TX 75801, Solaris Hospice or Cartmell Home for Aged.
