Doug Moore, 85, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Evangelistic Temple with Jason Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bailey & Foster Palestine. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Moore was a member of Evangelistic Temple.
He was born April 4, 1927 in Florsville, Texas, to Stella and Claude Moore.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. When he returned home he met and married the love of his life, Wanda Acker, on July 28, 1949. They were happily married for 63 years.
Mr. Moore owned the Old Mill Inn and worked for the railroad before beginning his real estate career in 1953.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Thomas Douglas Moore; sisters, Pauline Alexander, Helen Weiner, Thelma Morton and Claudine Lauden; brothers, C.B. Moore Jr., Frank Moore and Melvin Moore.
Mr. Moore is survived by his wife, Wanda Moore; daughters, Louann Shaver and husband Randy and Melodee Byrd and husband Gary, all of Palestine; grandchildren, Amy Quick and husband Brian, Deann Leisch and husband Jarrod, Julie Killion and husband Coy, and Ryan Byrd and wife Kelli; great-grandchildren, Madison, Maci, Carigan and Carson Quick, Blaire, Camille and Luke Leisch, Blake Conner, Brooke Burgess, Cole Killion, Bryson and Jaxson Byrd; sister, Althea Calcote and husband Howard of Palestine; sister-in-law, Marie Moore; local nieces, Linda Barnett and Patricia Jarrett; and numerous other nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special friends and caregivers, Pepa Vargas and family Jessie Sumners and Beverly Brown.
“Big Daddy” as he was lovingly known by many, had a passion for hunting and being outdoors. He especially loved spending time at the family farm, “Mooreland”. His constant companion was his schnauzer, Princess. But his faith and his family were by far his greatest loves.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Byrd, Brian Quick, Jarrod Leisch, Coy Killion, Toby Barnett and Sammy Vargas. Honorary pallbearers are Howard Calcote, Harold Gilbert Sr. and Billy Tidwell.
