Services for Nellie Hazel Platt, 85, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Blanton officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Platt died Sunday at Cartmell Home for Aged.
She was born June 9, 1927 in Palestine to William Pinkney and Daisy Bell Newman Young.
Mrs. Platt was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as volunteer in the office and lunch program for several years, a longtime member and officer of Rebekah Assembly IOOF of Texas, she also was a volunteer at Palestine Regional Medical Center, 4-H adult leader and the PTA for many years.
Mrs. Platt was retired from Palestine High School where she worked as the manager for the cafeteria.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daisy and Floyd Starkey and William P. Young; her husband, George Platt; brothers, Marvin Starkey, J.T. Starkey and Johnnie Young; and sister. Irene Heerman.
Mrs. Platt is survived by her children, Ed Platt and wife Carolyn of Waxahachie, George R. Platt and wife Martha of New Braunfels, and Melia Hunter and husband Lee of Lufkin; grandchildren Carrie Ryan and husband Robb, Bill Platt, Charlie Platt, Scott Platt and wife Deanna, Jeff Platt, Katie Driscoll and husband Andrew, Kris Saucedo and husband Juan and Kelly Hunter, great grandchildren, Hannah Platt, Kelsey Platt and Preston Saucedo; sister-in-law, Doris Platt, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Bill Platt, Scott Platt, Jeff Platt, Sandy Starkey, Rodney Newman and Lee Hunter.
Condolence calls will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
