Graveside services for Mary Ellen Wynn Dougan, 91, were held Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 at City Cemetery for family members only.
Mrs. Dougan died Aug. 10, 2012. She was born July 10, 1921, in Taylor, Texas to Mary Ann LeMaster and Roger Quintess Wynn, descendants of pioneering Texas families. She moved to Palestine, where Mr. Wynn was employed with Missouri Pacific Railroad, when she was a small child. She graduated from Palestine High School in 1938 and then graduated from Nixon Business College.
While working as a bookkeeper for Singer Sewing Machine Company in Alexandria, La., she met and married Lt. Archie Patrick Dougan from Fargo, N.D. on Jan. 5, 1942. After World War II, the family made Palestine their home.
Mrs. Dougan was a longtime employee of Bearden Furniture Company and Mr. Dougan was a longtime employee of the Palestine Herald-Press.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Lt. Col. Archie Patrick Dougan; brother, Thomas Ralph Wynn and wife, Mary Frances; nephew, Steve Wynn; and nieces, Genny Wynn Williams and Frannie Wynn Jimenez.
She is survived by one brother, Roger Quintess Wynn and wife, Charlotte, of Round Rock; two sons, David Wynn Dougan and wife, Sandra, of Spring; and William Patrick Dougan of Chandler, Ariz.; three daughters, Carol Ann Guidry and husband, Ron, of Houston, Mary Susan Parhizkar and husband, Hesh, of Sugar Land; and Drue Ellen McClure of Houston; in addition, four grandsons, Sean Patrick Dougan and wife, Melissa, of Austin; Andrew Patrick McClure and wife, Miriam, of San Francisco, Calif.; Austin Glen McClure of Houston; and Kevin Patrick Parhizkar of Sugar Land; three granddaughters, Lillie Grisko and husband, Dan, of Chicago; Erinn Elizabeth Dougan of Spring; and Sara Parhizkar of Austin; three great-grandsons, Luke Dougan Grisko and Jack Dougan Grisko of Chicago; and Cade Patrick Dougan of Austin; and one great-granddaughter, Payton Elizabeth Dougan of Austin; five nephews and two nieces.
A love of family and a lifelong passion of reading and gardening nourished and sustained her throughout her life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
