Memorial services for Dave “David” Louis Vance, Jr., 39 of Lake Ioni in Elkhart will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Modoc Baptist Church on Texas 19 between Athens and Bradford with Revs. Donnie Howard, Don Hiser and Clint Grant officiating.
His body has been donated for medical research to The University of Texas Soutwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Mr. Vance died Thursday at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Tyler after a lengthy battle with lupus. He was born in Palestine on May 27, 1950, son of Dave Louis and Ruby Helen Ward Vance.
He was employed by Union Pacific-MissouriPacific Railroad for 17 years as a switchman; served as secretary-treasurer of the Slocum Lions Club and was a member of the United Transportation Union. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Phillip Eugene Deem.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Deem Vance; daughters, Mandy and Allyson Vance, both of Lake Ioni; sisters, Tracy Vance Culpepper and Ann Vance; and a brother, James Allen.
