Funeral services for Patricia “Pat” Hoppers, 90, of Palestine will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel. A private burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery.
Mrs. Hoppers passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2012, at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born on August 16, 1921 in Palestine to Rush and Elenora Smith. Mrs. Hoppers was a resident of Palestine her entire life and a member of the Court Drive Church of Christ. Her and husband, Bill Hoppers, opened the first drive through grocery store in Palestine in 1958, Hoppers Dairy Way. She also enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends. Mrs. Hoppers was preceded in death by her husband in 1998, her parents, and sister Marie Johnson.
Survivors include son, Billy Hoppers and wife Joe Ann of College Station; brother, Rush Smith Jr. and wife Polly of Conroe; grandchildren, Kelly Hoppers of San Antonio, Brody Hoppers and wife Kim of Hockley, John Hood of Athens, Shelly Dewbre’ of Rusk, and Tracy Douglas of Leesville, LA; great-grandchildren, Konner Hoppers, Kendall Hoppers, CJ Simpson, Kandiss Hood, Cameron Harrison, Daniel Douglas, Kasey Yarbrough, Hayden Dewbre’; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 1-2 pm Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Palestine Community Food Pantry at 1434 Court Drive, Palestine, TX 75803.
