Services for John Victor Shroyer, Jr., 81, of Palestine will be at 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Palestine. Burial will follow in Palestine City Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites by Masonic Lodge No. 31.
Mr. Shroyer died Tuesday at the Medical Center of Arlington. He was born August 13, 1918, in Palestine, to John Victor Shroyer, Sr. and Ila Schnorr Shroyer. Mr. Shroyer graduated from Palestine High School in 1935 and from Baylor University in 1939. He was also a graduate of the University of Texas School of Dentistry. He was a life member of the Texas Dental Association and practiced for 50 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in World War II and in Korea as a Lieutenant Commander. He was a member and former president of the Palestine Lions Club and former president of the American Diabetic Association. He was Past Master and member of Masonic Lodge No. 31 AF&AM and a 33 degree Scottish Rite Mason. Mr. Shroyer was a member of First Baptist Church in Palestine. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eschol Cole Shroyer in April, 1999.
Mr. Shroyer is survived by daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Carol Ann) Cole of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Mrs. Bill (Betsy) Presley of Plano; son, Dr. John V. Shroyer III of Arlington; and six grandchildren.
Members of Palestine Masonic Lodge No. 31 will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Farris, Johnny Youngblood, Austin Presley, Brad Cole, Willie Carwell and Alvin Coleman.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
