Services for Mary Jane McMahan Kuhne, 87, of Palestine will be at 4 p.m. today at East Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Kuhne died Thursday at Cartmell Home for the Aged. She was born May 21, 1914 in Palestine to Henry “Harry” Mandeville McMahan and Ethel Estelle Numsen McMahan. Mrs. Kuhne graduated from Palestine High School in 1931. She married Werner Kolstad Kuhne at the First Presbyterian Church in Palestine on March 2, 1957. She attended Texas Women’s College for two years and then transferred to the University of Texas at Austin. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sority.
She taught at Nixon Business College in Palestine and later worked as a private secretary to executives at Humble Oil Company and also at Nieman Marcus in Houston. In 1935 she helped organize and found the Meleterion Study Club. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Crystal Lake Club, Harvey Women’ club and was active in the First Presbyterian Church all of her life.
Mrs. Kuhne was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Henry Madeville McMahan, Jr., George Frederick McMahan and Horace Numsen McMahan; and sister, Maureen Estelle McMahan.
She is survived by a sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
