Services for Roberta “Dimple” Scott Ferguson, 98, of Simonton, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jeff Cover officiating. Burial will be at New Addition Cemetery und the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Mrs. Ferguson died Tuesday at her home. She was born in Palestine on April 30, 1894 to G.T. and Ella Maud White Scott. Her father was an early builder and lumber dealer in Palestine. She attended public schools in Palestine and graduated from Texas Christian University with a bachelor’s degree and diploma in speech and earned her master’s degree from The University of Texas. She taught high schools in several school districts and also taught at Blinn Junior College at Brenham.
Her career took her to live in Elkhart, Vernon, McAllen, Jacksonville, Abilene, Oakwood, Falfurrias, Navasota, Brenham and Somerville. After retiring from 1959 from the Texas Public School System, she and her school superintendent husband, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, moved to Palestine. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1974. Mrs. Ferguson was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Atheneaum Club, Harvey Woman’s Club and Federated Woman’s Club. She was a life member of the Palestine Art League and the Palestine Poetry Society.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. J.R. (Jessie Lynn) Lenty of Vancouver, Washington; sons, John T. Ferguson of Big Spring and Dan S. Ferguson of Simonton; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tony Rohne, Bill Wilson, Wayne Walker, Jack Selden, Maurice Rosson and Drew Franklin.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Palestine, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
