Funeral services for Estelle Grounds Callaway are to be held at 2 p.m. today in the Hassell & Foster Chapel here with Rev. Carroll Fancher officiating. Burial will be in the New Addition beside her husband, Virgil Callaway who died in 1927.
Mrs. Estelle L. Callaway, longtime resident of Palestine, died at 11 a.m. Friday following an illness of several months. She was 79. Mrs. Callaway was born July 27, in Houston County, daughter of the late M.F. Grounds and Missouri Fulgham Grounds. She had been a resident of Palestine for 64 years and was making her home at 842 Tennessee Avenue at the time of her death. Mrs. Callaway attended Palestine schools and had been a member of the First United Methodist church here for many years.
She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Benson O. (Fannie A.) Davis and Mrs. Barney (Junnie V.) Davis both of Palestine; nieces, Mrs. Elmo (Delores) Overton of Tyler and Mrs. Trueman (Dorothy Lee) Kirk of Houston and two nephews Don and Bennie Davis, both of Houston. A brother, Woodrow Grounds preceded her in death.
Pallbearers will be nephews Don Davis, Bennie Davis, Elmo Overton, Truman Kirk, Erle Dickson, Jr., and David Manley.
The family will receive condolence calls at the Barney Davis residence.
