Services for Evelyn Elizabeth “Big E” Williams Carroll, 86 of Montalba will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Dan Manuel and Terry Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery in Bradford under the arrangement of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Mrs. Carroll died Monday at Palestine Regional Medical Center. She was born January 2, 1915 in the Bradford community to Chesley Graham and Cora Pickle Holland Williams.
Mrs. Carroll graduated from Montalba and Palestine High School in 1932 and from Nixon Business School. She was involved in local and national politics. She won a War Service award January 27, 1945 for more than 119 hours of voluntary service. She was secretary/treasurer for ACRES, a toxic waste prevention organization. She worked for two years without pay to organize the Brushy Creek Water Supply Corporation. She was a member of the Daughters of Confederates, the Grays Chapel Church of Christ and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, John S. Carroll, Jr.; and brother, Clifton C. Williams.
Mrs. Carroll is survived by her son, J. Stanley Carroll III of Tennessee Colony; daughter, K-Lu Cowan of Montalbe; brother, Paul H. Williams of Montalba; five grandchildren; and eight great-grand-children.
Pallbearers will be Troy Collins, Travis Collins, Tony Collins, Allen Patten, Barry Ray, Jimmy Allen, Carroll Allen and Ralph Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Holland, Rush Herrington, David Rhodes, George McIntyre, Gramham Williams and Melvin Elrod.
Condolence calls will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
