Services for Christine Hughes Summers, 81, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home with Dr. Jeff Cover officiating. Burial will follow in New Addition Annex.
Mrs. Summers died Tuesday in Cartmell Home for the Aged. She was born in Palestine on May 24, 1915 to Irby Bennett and Helen Huffsmith Hughes. She was a graduate of Palestine High School and attended college at the Ward Belmont University and the University of Texas at Austin.
She was born, married and will have funeral services at the present Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, which is known as the Huffsmith Home.
Mrs. Summers was a member of the Phi Beta Phi Sority, the Meleterion Club in Palestine, Harvey Woman’s Club, Krewe of Reverly Club and First Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her son, Frank Bailey Summers, Jr. in May, 1956.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Bailey Summers of Palestine; son, A. Hugh Summers of Palestine; brother, Irby Bennett Hughes, Jr. of Houston; and two grandsons.
Pallbearers will be Alan Summers, Ric Summers, John Coy Commers, Bob Summers, Jess Summers, Lee Gilliam, Rick Gilliam and Bob Gilliam.
Honorary pallbearers will be husband of the members of the Meleterion Club including, Tom B. Bailey, David Dial, C.D. Whitaker, Luckett Kilstad, Jr., Lester Hamilton and Howard Winkle.
Condolence calls will be received from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
