Sherry Oden Clark passed away Monday, June 11, 2012, after a long, brave battle against cancer.  Sherry was born January 2, 1949, in Palestine, Texas. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in home economics. She later furthered her education with a master’s degree in special education from East Texas State University and a master’s degree in library science from East Texas State University.
She taught for many years at Pine Tree and Spring Hill before becoming the librarian at Spring Hill Junior High. One of Sherry’s proudest achievements was the role she played in developing the first ever choir at Spring Hill ISD, where she served as the choir director.
Sherry was currently the director of special education services for Gregg County SSA, serving the four school districts of Gladewater ISD, Sabine ISD, Spring Hill ISD and White Oak ISD.
Sherry’s favorite pastime was spending time with her four grandchildren, Caroline, Jack, Claire and Sam. The grandchildren loved their “Bella” dearly.  Sherry was a long time member of Elmira Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She had served in the church choir for many years and was an elder of the church.
Sherry is survived by her husband of 42 years, Steve Clark; her oldest daughter, Stephanie Walden, husband, David, and their two daughters, Caroline and Claire; her youngest daughter, Jennifer Collier, husband, Michael, and their two sons, Jack and Sam; her mother, Alyne Oden; her brothers, Tim Oden and his wife, Celia, and Tony Oden; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Atwood Oden.
The family would like to thank Dr. Suits of Longview Regional, Dr. Frase and the staff of Texas Oncology-Longview Cancer Center, Drs. Goldstein, Spak and Lichliter of Baylor University Medical Center, Heart to Heart Hospice and all other supporting doctors, surgeons, nurses and staff for the outstanding care provided to Sherry and her family throughout this courageous fight.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2012, at Elmira Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Elmira Chapel Discover School.
