Services for Johnny Link “Lightning” gaines, 76 of Palestine will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Southside Baptist Church with Re. Ken Andress officiating.  Burial will be at Olive Branch Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.

Mr. Gaines died Sautrday at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler  He was born in Anderson county on December 28, 1919, to Alton Mills and Willie Lunsford Gaiens.  He worked for Capitol Gaines Liquor store.

Mr. Gaines served in the Army during World War II.  He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3907 and Southside Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by a brother, S.M. “Shug” Gaines.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice McCreary Gaines of Palestine; and a son, Johnny M. Gaines of Palestine.

Pallbearers will be Greg Gaines, Stewart Gaines, Marcus Nell, Bud Freeman, Ricky Linder, Keith Steadman, Jeff Garrett and Clinton McCreary.  Honorary pallbearers will be Haold Beeson, Ray Larson, Pat Patterson and Michael Crawford.

Condolence calls will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the J.L. “Lightning” Gaines fund at East Texas National Bank in Palestine.
