Services for Ben E. Campbell, 72, of Temple and formerly of Palestine, were October 1 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple with Rev. Tommy Brooks and Rev. Stephen Schmidt officiating. Burial was at Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple.
Mr. Campbell died September 29 at a Temple hospital. He was born in Palestine to Benjamin Franklin and Maude Lou Neil Campbell. He married Alta Cummins in Palestine on May 4, 1947.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and Korean War, retiring as a sergeant major in 1967 after 23 years of service. He then worked with the Boy Scouts of America as district executive for 22 years.
He was a member of Oak Park United Methodist Church in Temple and volunteered in many areas. He had lived in Temple since 1975.
Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife, Alta Campbell of Temple; sons, Franklin Campbell of Houston and Michael Campbell of Baltimore, MD; and three grandchildren.
