Funeral services for Charles Clifford Davis, Jr., 78 of Palestine, will be held 2:00 PM Friday at Palestine Church with Danny Rodriguez and The Reverend Ted Welty officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Prairie Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Palestine.

Mr. Davis passed away Wednesday at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. He was born February 18, 1934 in Palestine, to Charles C. Davis and Mary Catherine Cely Davis. He was a District Manager for Lindsey Newsom, He was past president of the Rotary Club and received the Paul Harris Fellowship, was a member of Palestine Church and was active in the community and church. He loved ranching and especially loved playing 42 with his children and grandchildren. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of almost 56 years Martha Saxton Davis of Palestine, daughters Claire Davis Nichols and husband John of Lake Jackson and Karen Sutton Davis of Austin, son Cliff Davis III, of Palestine, sister Mary Ann Rogstad and husband Tom and brother Jack Davis and wife George Ann, five grandchildren; Charlie Davis IV, Marlee Davis, Austin Nichols, Elizabeth Nichols Gruning and Rachel Nichols, and one great grandchild Corbin Nichols. Pallbearers will be Charlie Davis IV, Mark Rogstad, John Rogstad, John Nichols, Jimmy Saxton and Austin Nichols. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Bailey, Bill Bible, Frank George, Ted Welty, Jerry Joyce, Maurice Scott and Tucker Royal.

Condolence calls will be received from 12:30 to 2:00 Friday before the service at Palestine Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to charity of choice.
