Memorial services for Bobby “B.D.” Johnson, 77, of Palestine will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Monsignor Zach officiating.
Mr. Johnson died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012 at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 1, 1935 in Houston to Lester David Johnson and Eula F. McLure Johnson.
He served in the Army during the Korean War and during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was an engineer for the Missouri Pacific/Union Pacific Railroad for 30-plus years of service and he was a member of the Palestine Evening Lions Club for over 25 years.
Mr. Johnson enjoyed his barbecue pit and cooking for family and friends and took great pleasure in participating in barbecue cook-offs. He liked watching western movies and being with his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Lester David Johnson and Eula McLure Johnson; one son, Delmon Christopher Johnson; brothers, L.A. Johnson and V. Mac Johnson; and one sister, Christine Goolsby.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Molly Johnson; two children, Jody Johnson and his wife Stacey and daughter Cheryl Johnson Rice and her husband Dr. Don Rice; grandchildren, Racheal Johnson Shirey and her husband Dustin Shirey, Donna Rice, Joseph “Trey” Price III, Christopher Johnson, Lacey Price, Elizabeth Johnson Henson and Devyn Rice; great-grandchildren, Sarah Shirey, Gavin Shirey, Zac Johnson and Joseph Price Childress.
