Services for Elton E. “Bubba” Dean, 70, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Palestine with Dr. Richard Waters officiating. Burial will be at Land of Memory with Masonic graveside services. Arrangements are by Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Mr, Dean died Tuesday at Trinity Valley Medical Center.
He was born in Palestine on Aug. 22,1924, to Ezra Elijah and, Bessie Mae Walston Dean. He • retired from Union Pacific Railroad in 1986 after 42 years of service as wrecker foreman and supervisor.
During World War II, he served with the Army 756th Railway Shop Battalion in the European Theater.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Palestine, member and Lion Tamer of Palestine Lions Club and a member of American Railway Supervisors Association. Mr. Dean was Past Master and current secretary of Palestine Masonic Lodge No. 31, a life and endowed member, and Past District Deputy of Masonic District No. 117 from 1966-67.
Mr. Dean also was a member of Palestine No. 10 R.A.M., Willis Stewart Council No. 20, second oldest Past Commander of Palestine Commandery No. 3, a member of Sharon Temple in Tyler, Palestine Shrine Club and Palestine Chapter No. 395 Order of the Eastern Star.
Mr. Dean is survived by his wife, Belle Dean of Palestine; daughters, Denise Lee Dean of Athens and Donna Dean Hill of Birmingham, Ala.; sisters, Jaynie Bower of Abilene; Bess Meschke of Baton Rouge, La., and Zora Mae Davis of Vidor; and one grandson.
Pallbearers will be members of Palestine Masonic Lodge No. 31.
Condolence calls will be received from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Masonic Home and School, First Baptist Church in Palestine or Lions Crippled Children’s Camp.
