Services for Huey J. Brooks, 56 of Palestine, will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home with Rev. M.L. “Bud” Magee officiating and an eulogy by Ernest Seift. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park.
Mr. Brooks died Friday at his home. He was born in Montalba on October 3, 1940 to Ernest A. and Hester Johnson Brooks Sr. Mr. Brooks was a retired security lieutenant with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He was a Baptist.
He graduated from Palestine High School in 1959 and was named Athlete of the Year in 1959. He set records in pole vaulting at the high school and state level. He also held the freshman record for the javelin at North Texas State University.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Buck Brooks; and a nephew, Ricky Brooks.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Turner Brooks of Palestine; daughters, Rhonda Brooks Harcrow and Lori Brooks Martin, both of Palestine; son, Michael David “Dave” Brooks of Palestine; sisters, Doris Selman and Joy Tippen, both of Palestine, and Ettalu Ritchey of Copperas Cove; brothers, Ernest A. Brooks Jr. of Elkhart and Clarence F. Brooks of Hugo, Oklahoma and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Womack, Buddy James, Billy Fred Johnson, Arvis Waldon, Harold Fitzgerald and Donald Springer.
Condolence calls will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
