Funeral services for Elizabeth Frances (Betty) Carnathan, 79, of Tyler will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel with Pastor Don Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at the Palestine City Cemetery under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory.
Mrs. Carnathan died at her home in Tyler on Saturday. She was born March 12, 1926, in Palestine to Charley and Ava Moore Walker. She was past member and officer of the Eastern Star and the youngest Mother Adviser of the Rainbow Girls.
Mrs. Carnathan was a devoted Christian and member of the First Christian Church of Palestine, a secretary for 12 years at the Bethel Independent Presbyterian Church in Houston, a former member of Green Acres Baptist Church and Grace Bible Church in Tyler.
Mrs. Carnathan had been a volunteer for 16 years at Methodist Hospital, Houston and for 13 years at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. She was membership chairman of the East Texas Heartbeats of Tyler. She also had been a former employee of Missouri Pacific Railroad and had been active in the Amberwood Homeowners Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, J.C. (Jake) Carnathan; a daughter, Cyndee; her parents; brothers, Charles and Jack Walker; and sister, Maureen Walker Bower.
Mrs. Carnathan is survived by sisters, Jeane Walker Williams of Palestine and Cheryl (Sug) Walker Douglas of Comfort; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Pallbearers will be Shannon Bower, Stoney Bower, Charley Mancuso, M.Z. Sammons, Robert Bower Jr., Joe Ronald Bower, Bill Aman, David French and Wayne Fletcher.
The family will receive condolences from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Grace Bible Church, 2004 Broussard, Tyler, Texas 75701, to the Hospice of East Texas, or to the American Heart Association.
