Services for Marguerite Gamba Vaughn, 81 of Palestine will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Herrington Land of Memory Funeral Home with Dr. Jeff Cover officiating. Burial will be at Palestine City Cemetery. Mrs. Vaughn died Thursday at a Palestine nursing home after a lengthy illness. She was born in Palestine on November 2, 1913 to Fred and Anna Augusta Gama. She lived in Palestine her entire life and was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
For 36 years, Mrs. Vaughn was a nurse, having worked at Memorial Hospital from 1950 to 1972 and also at Park Place and Villa Inn nursing homes. In 1948 she worked as a switchboard operator at the telephone company. She also was a member of Rainbow Girls. She was preceded in death by her husband, D.R. Vaughn, Sr. in 1973 and sister, Gertrude Marie Gamba in 1960.
She is survived by her son, Frank Vaughn of Palestine; stepsons, D.R. Vaughn, Jr. of Burney, Sammie Vaughn of Fort Worth and Christie Vaughn of San Antonio; stepdaughter, Barbara Harris of San Antonio; and two grandsons.
Pallbearers will be Buzz Camp, Kenneth Calhoun, Jerry Axum, Lloyd Kelsey, Maurice Rosson and Chris Kenner.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 – 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
