Owen was injured in an accident and could not graduate with the class of 1960.

Private services for Owen F. Thornton, Jr., 51 of Austin will be held in Palestine under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.  Mr. Thornton died Saturday in Austin.

He was born in Palestine on January 26, 1943 to Howard Garner Kolstad and Owen F. Thornton, Sr.  He attended Schools in Houston, New Orleans, Palestine and the University of Houston.  He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Clyde Hanks; brothers, Peter K. Thornton of Palestine and Gardner S. Thornton of Houston; stepbrother, Clyde Hanks III; and stepsisters, Rev. Mary Sue Reuter and Kit Stewart.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
