Wayne attended Palestine High School then graduated in 1935 from Schreiner Institute in Kerrville, Texas.
Services for Wayne Smith, 76, of Palestine will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Philips Episcopal Church with Rev. David Price officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home. Mr. Smith died Friday morning at a local hospital. He was born September 9, 1917 in Palestine to William Andrew and Ethel Harding Smith.
Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of Palestine and was owner of Palestine Laundry and Dry Cleaners for 47 years. He was a graduate of Schreiner Institute in Kerrville and the University of Texas at Austin. He was a communicate of St. Philips Episcopal Church, having served as senior warden, vesterman and choir member. He was named as director of Royal National Bank in 1971. He also was a member of the Rotary Club and had served as president of Crystal Lake Club.
He is survived by his wife, Inez Murdaugh Smith of Palestine; daughters, Beverly Smith Beck of Houston and Gail Smith Kelly of Monroe. GA.; sisters, Frances Friedman of Tyler and Dolly Ann Stallings of Montana; brother, Dale H. Smith of Palestine; and four grandchildren.
pallbearers will be Bob Kenderdine, Bill Green, Ted Welty, Eugene Kelly III, Wayne Smith Kelly, C.L. Kolstad, Jr. John McDonald, Jackson Hanks, C.L. Kolstad III, R.L. (Jick) Kenderdine, Richard Pounds, David Dial, Frank George, Chris Kolstad, Dr. Robert McFarlane and Robert Harrell.
