Services for Tom E. May, 74, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Rhodes and Dr. Weldon Morton officiating. Burial will be in Strong Cemetery. Mr. May died at his home late Friday.
He was born February 29, 1916 in Ennis to Thomas G. and Frankie Elder May. He moved to Palestine in 1930 and was employed for 16 years by Kolstad Jewelers as a watch repairman and railroad watch inspector. Mr. May was an Army Signal Corp veteran of World War II, serving in the 63rd Signal Battalion from April 1941 to August 1945. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3907 and a member of First United Methodist Church and the Victor Sunday School Class. Mr. May was preceded in death by his sister Margaret May Pessoney.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Wolf May of Palestine; sons, Thomas William May of Nacogdoches, Darrel Patrick May of Waxahachie and Sam David May of Elkhart; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Bascom Bentley, Jim Crook, Jimmy Dickey, Jiles Upton, Charlie Webb, Jack Graves, Alton Rushing and Wayne McDaniel.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 – 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the organ fund at First United Methodist Church, Palestine.
