Services for Mrs. J.U. (Marjory) Maffitt, 89, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home with Rev. David Price officiating.  Burial will be at New Addition Cemetery. Mrs. Maffitt died Saturday at Palestine Nursing Center.

She was born in Palestine on June 4, 1903 to Charles Edward and Sallie Belle Crowder Kingsbury.  For many years she operated a clothing and antique shop on West Oak Street.  She was a member of First Christian Church.   She was preceded in death by her husband, J.U. “Shorty” Maffitt, on September 30, 1983.  He was a longtime Palestine merchant.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Jody (Marjory) Jones of Stillwater, OK; brother Charles Edward Kingsbury of Houston; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John B. McDonald, Ted Maffitt, Jack Selden, Ernest Swift, Henry Hodges and Don Hodges.
