Services for Birdie Maddox, 86, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Bailey & Foster Funeral Home with the Rev. Benny Burlison officiating.  Burial will be at Fort Houston Cemetery.  Mrs. Maddox died Tuesday at Vila Inn Nursing Center.

She was born August 23, 1905 in Anderson County to John Randolph and Martha Ann Browning Powell.  She was a Baptist and was retired from the Industrial Garment Co.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Martin Maddox on May 24, 1965 and a granddaughter, Gail Penland on January 27, 1971.

She is survived by her daughters, Martha J. Penland of Palestine and Elaine Bessette of Garland; sons, David Maddox of Palestine, Donald D. Maddox of Tyler and Richard L. Maddox of Irving; sister, Bertha Lee Harris of Irving; 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ernie Sclemmer, Lee Schlemmer, Sammy Ingram, David Pearse, Jimmy Newman and Earl Smith.
