Services for Laverne Hafner, 78, of Palestine, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist church with Revs. Bob Webb and Ben Reily officiating. Burial will be in Palestine City Cemetery under the direction of Herrington Land of Memory Funeral Home. Mrs. Hafner died Thursday at Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born April 5, 1912, in Plantersville, a daughter of Buford Hartzog and Willie Hartzog. She lived in Palestine most of her life and was a long time Sunday School teacher of the Loyalty Class and a member of the Wesleyan Guild at Grace United Methodist Church. She was retired from Palestine Savings & Loan.
She is survived by her husband, Logan Hafner of Palesttine; sons, John Hafner of Liberty and Dan Hafner of Nacogdoches; sisters, Helen Witt of Lake Jackson, Shirley Thompson and Katherine Mize, both of Houston, and Lanell Strickland of Boulder, CO.; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Roy Knollenberg, Jack Herod, Harold Davis, Clifford Bassett, Jack Graves and Webb Bratz.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 – 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
