Services for Winnie Frank Woolverton, 93, of Tennessee Colony, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Herrington Land of Memory Chapel with the Rev. Ken Dodson officiating. Burial will follow in Land of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Herrington Land of Memory Funeral Home. Mrs. Woolverton died Wednesday at her home. She was born October 15, 1909 in Palestine to Frank and Winnie Jameson Girffith. Mrs. Woolverton graduated from Palestine High School in 1926 and then from Nixon Business School in Palestine. She worked for IGN Railroad offices, for Nathan Royall, a cotton broker, for Bob Reeves, the county attorney and for Ben Greenwood, the district attorney.
She married B.G. Woolverton in 1932 and traveled and worked with him in the oil fields of several Gulf Coast states until returning to Tennessee Colony in 1948 to open a dairy business. Mrs. Woolverton worked closely with Anderson County extension agent Doc LaRue in getting many state community improvement and activity awards for Tennessee Colony. She was hired as postmaster for Tennessee Colony in 1956 and served 23 1/2 years before retiring in 1979. She was a member of the Christian Church of Tennessee Colony. Mrs. Woolverton was preceded in death by her husband; and a sister Mary Louise Griffith.
She is survived by two cousins and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Mitchell Ely, John C. Ely, Jr., Johnny Belcher, Tom Girffith, Hugh Dublin and Stanley Graham.
Honorary pallbearers will be L.C. Mehaffey, Ed Wilson, Vivian Ivy, Kay Rogers, and other nieces and nephews.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 – 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
