Services for R. C. “Bob” Marshaman, 86, of Palestine will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Bailey & Foster Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Juan Trevino and Tom Potts officiating. Burial will be in Broyles Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Marshall died Wednesday in Anderson County Memorial Hospita. A lifelong Palestine resident, he was born September 19, 1899, son of William and Rose Bieser Marshaman.
He attended Palestine High School, and he served in the U.S. Navy during World Wars I and II. On May 28, 1917, he started work for the I.G.N. Railroad. He also worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad as a carman prior to retiring on October 5, 1964 with 47 years of service.
A member of First Presbyterian Church, he served as a deacon and elder. He also was an active member of Howard Gardner American Legion Post 85 and served twice as commander. He served several times on the YMCA board. He was a member of Palestine Palestine Lodge No. 31 AF&AM and York Rite Bodies, Chapter, Council and Commandery. He held a life membership in Palestine Lodge 31 and Palestine Chapter No. 395 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a Masonic Ambassador in the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and was active in the Palestine Shrine Club.
Survivors include sisters, Lucille Marshman Haney of Palestine and Helen Redmond of Dallas; brothers, Byron Marshman of Palestine, W. L. Marshman of Bethany, La., and M.P. Marshman of Tyler.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Harper Marshman, who died in 1980, and sisters, Irene Marshman and Rosemary Marshman, and a brother E.S. Marshman.
Condolence calls will be received from 7 – 9 p.m. today at the funeral Home. The family requests that memorials be made to a favorite charity.
Pallbearers will be Paul Scott, Stanley Walton, Leland Reinhard, Jack Hockridge, Johnny Neel and Lawrence Ewers.
