Services for Eva Hathcock Holmes, 85 of Austin and formerly of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Westwood Methodist Church with the Rev. Wayne Hardgraves and Dr. Dan Darby officiating. Burial will be at Fort Houston Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Mrs. Holmes died Sunday in Austin. She was born in the Concord community on September 12, 1911, to Richard B. and Mary Bell Hathcock. She grew up in the Magnolia community, attended Long Lake Baptist Church and graduated from Palestine High School in 1931.
Mrs. Holmes was a member of Westwood Methodist Church and was active in the Palestine Senior Citizens Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, P.C. Holmes, and daughter, Mary Ann Collier Stewart.
She is survived by her son-in-law, George R. Stewarat of Austin; sister-in-law, Florence Hathcock of San Antonio; and three granddaughters.
Pallbearers will be James “Butch” Collier, Charlie Fischer, James Ives, J.D. Lightfoot, Al Lightfoot and Steve Thornton.
Condolence calls will be received from 7 – 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
