07 / 27 / 1948 – 12 / 06 / 2009Virgil C. Spurlock, age 61, of Palestine, Texas died December 6, 2009 at his home. He was born July 27, 1948 in Anderson County, Texas to T.J. Spurlock Sr. and Delphinia Hunter Spurlock. Burial was in Palestine City Cemetery, Middle Section under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. Spurlock graduated from Palestine High School in 1968. While in the Army, he served in the Vietnam War and earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Combat Medical Certification, and the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America. He retired from PABCO Metal Company in 2002. He was a member of the Green Room. He counseled and encouraged others who were facing the same challenges. Mr. Spurlock was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Edward, Eugene, and McClendon Spurlock. He is survived by daughters, Tina Strain, and Gloria Sanders; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sisters, Nancy (A.C.) Brisby, Alma Watson, Gloria Dial, and Marian Spurlock; brothers, Edward (Sharon) Spurlock Sr., T.J. Spurlock Jr.,and Willie J. Spurlock. |
