Services for George E. Droby III, 71, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Potts officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Park. Mr. Droby died Saturday at Trinity Valley Medical Center.
A native of Palestine, he was born September 3, 1919 to George Edward and Annie Nemer Droby Jr. He graduated from Palestine High School in 1937 and attended Austin College in Sherman from 1938 to 1941. During World War II, he served four years active duty as a master sergeant with the 8th Air Force.
He worked for Texas Power & Light Co. from 1945 to 1955. He was an electrical contractor, and founded Droby Electric in 1955. He operated his company for 35 years, retiring in 1989.
He married Ruby Reinhold on June 5, 1943 in Sioux City, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Droby, of Palestine; daughter, Glenda Droby Daniels of Palestine; son, George E. Daniels of Palestine; son George E. Droby IV of Saudia Arabia; brother, Costine Droby of Dallas; and a grandson.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Overton, Tommy Gunnels, Hugh Dublin, Hosie Warren, Mark Henderson, James Atwood and Pete Daniels.
Condolence calls will be received from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the church or charity of the donor’s choice.
