Services for Alex Blue, 80, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Herrington / Land of Memory Chapel, with the Revs. Bob Webb and Jack DuPree officiating. Burial will be in Land of Memory Cemetery.
Mr. Blue died Saturday at Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born April 9, 1910, in Lauderdale, Miss., a son of Alexander Philip and Agnes McElroy Blue.
He moved to Palestine in 1927 and graduated from Palestine High School in 1928. He was employed by Robb & Rowley Theaters, and moved to McAlester, OK in 1940 to become a theater manager.
He was a sergeant in the Maraine Corps during World War II, seeing action in the South Pacific, Okinawa and China.
He was a past president of the Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Junior Chamber of Commerce, a recipient of the Boy Scout Silver Beaver Award, a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner while in McAlester.
He moved to Tulsa in 1953 and was self-employed in the theater business. He retired in 1973 and moved back to Palestine, where he was a charter member of the Kiwanis Club, a member of the Rotary Club and of Grace United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Morton Blue of Palestine; a son, A. Philip Blue Jr. of Norman, OK.; a daughter, Mary Ann Brewer of Richardson; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Fred Miller, Drew Frantzen, Kelly Watlington, Joe Watlington, Marvin P. Morton and Michael Morton.
The family will receive condolence calls from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
