Funeral services for Weems Mason Avant, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Tennessee Colony Union Church with the Rev. Walter Wilis and the Rev. W.R. Miller officiating.  Burial will be in the Tennessee Colony Cemetery under the direction of the Bailey Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Ben Gary Woolverton, Merlin Avant, Jr., Roger Weems, Boyd Weems, Jed Weems and Burk E. Weems.  Charles DeFore has been named as an honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive condolence calls at the Mason Avant home in Tennessee Colony, phone 928-2237.

Mr. Avant, a native of Tennessee Colony, was a graduate of Palestine High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University in 1961.

He was a consulting engineer with the Houston Oil and Gas Company of Houston, operating off the coast of Galveston.  A veteran of the Korean conflict, serving with the U.S. Army in Alaska, he was a member of the Tennessee Colony Baptist Church, the Anderson county A&M Club, and the Airplane Pilots Association.

Survivors include his parents, Mason and Freda Weems Avant of Tennessee Colony; two sons, Daniel Joseph Avant of Tennessee Colony and James Travis Avant of Huntsville; one daughter, Miss Sharon Renee Avant of Huntsville; and one sister, Miss Kathryn Sue Avant of Tennessee Colony.
