Services for Virginia S. Dawson, 93, Palestine, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Dan Bubach officiating.Burial will be in Palestine City Cemetery under direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home, Palestine.

Mrs. Dawson died Oct. 7, 2008, in a Palestine hospital.

She was born Jan. 25, 1915, in Palestine to the late Thomas Lamar and Jennie Bassett Slaughter. She graduated from Palestine High School in 1932, lived in Houston where she worked at Foley’s and in Tyler where she was secretary to the superintendent of Tyler Independent School District. She later lived in Dallas where she worked at Hillcrest Cemetery. She was a member of First Christian Church of Palestine, and was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Sandra Dawson.

Survivors are two grandchildren, Teresa Phillips, Tyler, and Virginia Bowser, Dallas; three great-grandchildren; and three nephews.

Family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
