The body will be cremated, under direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors, Tyler.Hugh Frank Stanaland was born in Palestine, Texas, to Beulah and S.H. (Ned) Stanaland on Dec. 4, 1922. He was a graduate of Palestine High School, Nixon Business College, TJC and ETSU at Commerce. Mr. Stanaland served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946. Upon his return to Tyler, he worked at Carrier in the Engineering Department, retiring in 1984. He was a longtime member of Cedar Street UMC. After retirement, he worked in the church office. He was Secretary/Treasurer and choir director until Jan. 1, 2008.

Mr. Stanaland was President of the Strutters in 1976.

Mr. Stanaland was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Johnnie Marie Stanaland, Neddye Stanaland Fagan, Ozella Stanaland Lunsford; and twin brother, Max Stanaland.

Survivors include his wife, May Eleene Stanaland; one son, Paul Stanaland and wife Janet of Rocky Mount, Va.; one daughter, Joye Gentry of Tyler; three grandchildren, Jake Gentry of Tyler, Joey Gentry of Tyler, Sally Gentry of Edom; one great-grandson, Jackson Gentry of Van; two stepgranddaughters; four stepgrandsons; one nephew, Jerry Lunsford of Bedford; and four nieces, Elaine Fagan Burgess of Lewisville, Margie Fagan Wright, Joyce Fagan Boone, Pamela Stanaland Patterson, all of Chandler.

At the family’s request, memorials in honor of Hugh Stanaland may be made in lieu of flowers to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, 75701.
