Frankye passed away on March 7, 2010 at age 90 in Houston, Texas. She was born in Palestine, Texas and lived there after graduating high school and business school, until she met, then married the love of her life, Olen Johnson, on May 14, 1938. They were married for 62 years prior to his death. They moved to Houston in 1941 with their only child. Frankye went to work at Hedgecroft Hospital, the leading polio hospital in Houston, during World War II while her husband served in the Navy. She continued to work there until it closed. She retired in the mid-1980s as an executive secretary for Southline Metal Products. Frankye loved her family first and foremost. She loved golfing and traveling with Olen, camping with family, Bridge and dancing with their longtime friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Earl and Lota Braly; her husband, Olen; her granddaughter, Debbie Shelton; and her two sisters, Doris Wheaton and Rosemary Mims.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Doris Lynn and Kenneth Hoyt; grandson and wife, Kenny and Colleen Hoyt; great-grandchildren, Tyler Olen Hoyt, Hailey Hoyt, Josh Lehmann and wife Devin, Eric Lehmann, Jordan Shelton; and one great-great grandchild, Aubrey Lehmann; a brother-in-law and wife, three nephews, and one niece.
For the last three years she has been a resident of the Hampton’s at Spring Shadows in Houston.
The family wishes to give heartfelt appreciation for the loving and compassionate care she received from all caregivers at the Hampton’s.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday March 11, 2010 in the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel 13001 Katy Freeway Houston, Texas 77079 with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
