Services for R.E. Thompson, 85, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bailey & Foster Chapel Palestine, with the Rev. Fred Neal officiating. Burial will be in the Palestine City Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Thompson passed away Friday in Palestine. He was born Feb. 1, 1925 in Palestine to Elmer E. Thompson and Nellie R. Henry Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was a developer and builder, having developed the Moonlite Subdivision, the Northhills Subdivision and the George E. Hutcherson Subdivision, also many houses and businesses in Palestine and other cities in Texas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marian Muse Thompson; one daughter, Sherry McGee of Athens; two sons, Kindred Thompson of Flint and Richard Thompson of Troup; one granddaughter, Tabitha Hull of Athens; one great granddaughter, Myriah Hull of Athens; and one sister, Doris Hicks of Palestine.
Pallbearers will be Rodney McGee, Ken Kastrop, Mauris Engledow, George Hull, Allen Brumley and Bruce Barrett.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at Bailey & Foster.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crisis Center for abused women and children.
