Graveside services for Richard M. “Dick” Flournoy 81 of Houston, will be held 10:00 AM Saturday at Roselawn Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Palestine. Richard M. “Dick” Flournoy passed away peacefully June 29, 2010.

He was born and raised in Palestine, Texas September 17, 1928 to Huber M. Flournoy and Mae Ballard Flournoy. He attended both Texas A&M University and Kilgore Jr. College before enlisting in the Army where he served in Osaka, Japan for a year. Upon returning he enrolled in The University of Oklahoma where he earned a degree in petroleum engineering, a career that he loved. He loved hunting, fishing, baseball and OU football as well as a love for early American History. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Mr. Flournoy was preceded in death by his parents, sons William M. Flournoy and Richard M. Flournoy Jr., and beloved aunt and uncle Velma Fitzgerald and husband E. D. Fitzgerald of Palestine.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jo flournoy, daughter Kathy Flournoy-King and son-in-law Fred K. King of Houston. Special thanks from the family go out to cousins Millie Kruse and husband Richard Kruse for making the last two years bearable and to the incredible staff of Odyssey Hospice @ Select Specialty Hospital Heights campus for their excellent care and compassion during his last days. Go with God and Boomer Sooner, Dick!
