Services for Robert D. “Bob” Jones, 71, of Alvin and formerly of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Herrington Land of Memory Chapel with Tom Rousseau officiating. Burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery. Mr. Jones died Tuesday morning in a Houston hospital after a brief illness. He was born September 16, 1926, in Bluejacket, OK to John Floyd and Clara Anderson Jones. He graduated from Palestine High School in 1944 and from Baylor University in 1948. He was retired from IMCO Services, a division of Halliburton. Mr. Jones was a member of First Christian Church of Alvin. He was preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice Jones Herrington in 1984.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Fuller Jones of Alvin; son, Robert D. Jones, Jr. of Ellicott City, MD.; daughter, Ellen Armistead of Spanish Fort, AL; brother, F. Raymond “Buck” Jones of McAlester, OK and Clyde M. “Bud” Jones of Tyler; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bob Ray, Gene Prisock, Harry Granberry, Buddy Johnson, Allan Duckett and John Goehring. Honorary pallbearers will be Homer Morris and D.I. Bolding.
The family will receive condolences from 1 – 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
